Choosing Perfect Roofing Color

Simple tips from an exterior design professional for choosing perfect roofing color

Deciding on something as important as your exterior design is not easy. After all, the roof is probably the biggest and the most visible part of your home and you will probably have to live with your decision for the next 20 to 30 years. Your roof should have some of your personality, it should express your style, but the color of it should also be adequate for the design of the rest of the house. We, at DNB Roofing Rockville, offer you some simple guidelines you should keep in mind when choosing the roof color.

1.     Dark vs. light roof colors

Many people think that dark color of the roof makes a significant difference in heat retention. That is simply not true. It has never been proven that darker colors attract more heat. Just chose the color you love and don’t worry about the rest.

2.     Compare the colors

Compare the color of your roofing material to the color of the other parts of your home, such as siding, bricks and stone. For example darker gray or black tones of a roof go perfectly with light gray a blue house. Darker gray or black roof on a white house will create a more traditional look.

3.     Home enlargement

If you chose roof colors properly you can create an illusion. Darker colors tend to make your home look smaller while the light ones do the opposite. White light roof your home can look bigger than you imagine.

4.     Remember your neighbors

When choosing the color for your home, keep in mind that you are not alone. How will your roof look along side with your neighbor’s? Try not to copy. If you have an exact same roof as your neighbor it can create a dull and uninventive look.
